Antoine Monzonis-Calvet aka Atone asserted his talent as a composer when he granted us with a cosmic and ethereal journey through his first album ’Un An’, released in June 2006. A journey that he spent some time transforming into a real live project, together with the help of drummer Tanuki and of some videos - the latter being changing and of unusual formats -, so as to offer a surprising live show where macintosh and drums face each other (lit by the movies) and which was played in several serious places thoughout France. At the same time, Atone opened his bag of tricks and invited some guests to rework tracks from ’Un An’ as they pleased. On this occasion, he called on artists such as the English band The Remote Viewer (City-Centre-Offices), who hypnotize the audience with their new version of the track ’Seul’, or the English artists The Boats (Moteer) who give ’Au Revoir’ a renewed touch of melancholy. The Japanese band Lullatone (AudioDregs) also takes part in this work and transcends ’Resonance’ into a children’s nursery rhyme, where the voice of Yoshimi Tomida is resplendent. Pandatone (Neo Ouija) shatters Introduction though a disquieting prism, whereas Tony (listen to his ’Itinérances’ EP, released on ADIM) decorates ’Rupture’ with a hundred bells. Praveen (Neo Ouija, Expanding) dilutes ’Accordeon’ into a harmonic version with emphasized nostalgia, before the Angers-based Tanuki, helped by a few friends, delivers an acoustic and partially sung second reading of ’Resonance’. Like a distorted and refreshing echo to Un An, Un An Plus Tard EP is the third in our series of free ep’s derived from cd records previously released on ADIM.

Avec son premier album Un An, paru en juin 2006, Antoine Monzonis-Calvet alias Atone affirmait son talent de compositeur en nous offrant un voyage cosmique et immatériel. Un voyage qu’il a ensuite pris le temps de mettre en scène, accompagné du batteur Tanuki et de vidéos aux formats changeants et unusuels, afin d’offrir un spectacle étonnant où le macintosh et la batterie se font face (éclairés par la lumière des projections), présenté notamment au Lieu Unique (Nantes), au festival Astropolis (Brest) et aux Nuits Sonores (Lyon) en 2006. En même temps, Atone ouvrait la boîte à merveilles, laissant à quelques invités la possibilité de retravailler les morceaux d’Un An selon leur volonté. Il a convié à cette fête des artistes tels que les anglais de The Remote Viewer (City-Centre-Offices), qui hypnotisent avec leur nouvelle version de Seul, ou les autres anglais de The Boats (Moteer) qui offrent une seconde mélancolie à Au Revoir. Egalement présents, les japonais de Lullatone (AudioDregs) transcendent Résonance en une comptine enfantine où resplendit la voix de Yoshimi Tomida. Pandatone (Neo Ouija) éclate Introduction dans un prisme inquiétant, alors que Tony (écoutez son Ep Itinérances, paru sur ADIM) décore Rupture de mille clochettes. Praveen (Neo Ouija, Expanding) délaye Accordéon dans une version harmonique à la nostalgie exacerbée, avant que l’angevin Tanuki, accompagné à l’occasion d’une troupe d’amis, ne délivre une relecture acoustique et partiellement chantée de Résonance. Echo distordu et rafraichissant d’Un An, Un An Plus Tard EP est notre troisième volet dans la série de disques à télécharger faisant suite à des sorties matérielles.

De The Remote Viewer à The Boats en passant par les japonais de Lullatone, chaque formation imprime de sa patte les morceaux et rendent le tout follement attractif et véritablement indispensable. - Benoît Richard (Ondefixe)

Like the album itself, the new pieces are ethereal in character, with most of the contributors applying their associated styles to the material in question : The Remote Viewer’s “Seul” treatment filters a rather dubby sea of melancholy chords and tinkling rhythm patterns through the static interference of a broken-down radio ; The Boats’ “Au Revoir” remix becomes a lilting dance of melancholy melodies against the rapid pitter-patter of stuttering flicker and handclaps ; and Pandatone refracts “Introduction” into a moody meander of organ chords and ambient hiss, before beats and a glockenspiel ping make brief interjections. In addition, Tony transforms “4 Minutes Pour Une Rupture En 3 Temps” into a shape-shifting mass of flicker that’s abruptly swallowed by bells, Praveen treats “Accordéon” to a shimmering ‘Harmonium Remix’ that blossoms like a brilliantly picturesque dream, and Angers-based Tanuki, aided by friends (‘les choeurs de Paimboeuf’), takes “Résonance” on a post-rock ride that ends at a bucolic countryside inn with a sing-along. The most surprising mix is by Japanese band Lullatone whose mix of propulsive beats and willowy keyboard gleam in “Résonance” is surprisingly aggressive and up-tempo.
